Thrive Internet Marketing Agency (SEO) review
Worth a conversation about SEO once the caveats below are settled.
A large, long-established agency that genuinely competes in SEO - Clutch puts it at 70% of the business - with published pricing and no lock-in, but checklist-level technical depth, a password-protected team page, undisclosed link-payment practices, and a programmatic city-page farm on its own domain that contradicts the bespoke content positioning.
Pricing: several published tiers Published by the agency
SEO pricing is published as a range from $500 to $10,000+ per month, with local SEO at $500-$1,500 and consulting at $150-$300 per hour, on month-to-month terms. source ↗
How it scored
Every dimension is scored against this discipline’s published rubric. Open one to see the claim it was scored on, what the rubric measures there and how much it weighs, and where the evidence came from.
Vertical and stage fitStrong
Around 40 named verticals with dedicated pages, weighted to local home services and healthcare. Clutch independently reports the service mix as SEO 70%, PPC 10%, social 10%, web design 10%, with a $1,000 minimum and a $10,000-$49,999 typical project - so the SMB-to-lower-mid-market positioning is third-party confirmed, not inferred. The enterprise page claims Fortune 500 work but names no enterprise client.
What this dimension measures: Named clients in the buyer's vertical and stage (B2B SaaS, ecommerce, local, etc.). Direct sector+stage match scores 5; 'we do SEO for everyone' scores 2. Long-sales-cycle B2B SEO is a different craft from ecommerce or local, mismatch scores 1-2. Counts for 20% of the weighted score.
Evidence: verified — checked against a named source you can open; the links under Sources below are where to check it yourself.
Technical SEO depthWeak
A dedicated page covers crawl errors, site architecture, structured data, Core Web Vitals and migration URL mapping, but reading it end to end there is no log-file analysis, JavaScript rendering, crawl-budget or hreflang treatment, and it names Google's Structured Data Testing Tool, deprecated in 2021. No technical owner is identifiable: /about/team/ is password-protected and the founder is the only named individual on the site. Their robots.txt does deliberately admit the Ahrefs site-audit crawler, which is real evidence of continuous self-auditing.
What this dimension measures: Real technical capability: crawlability, site architecture, Core Web Vitals, indexation, schema, migrations, JS rendering. Named technical audits and fixes with outcomes score 4-5. 'We'll optimize your meta tags' with no technical substance scores 1-2. Counts for 15% of the weighted score.

Content quality and topical authorityWeak
The content page markets a bespoke, data-first strategy and 100% unique content, with no volumes, no in-house-versus-freelance disclosure and no AI-content position stated either way. Against that, Thrive's own domain runs a programmatic city-by-service page farm: 97 URLs matching the city-plus-service template were counted in the first 8 of 38 declared page sitemaps. Their own site is the best available sample of the method, and it is templated volume.
What this dimension measures: Genuinely researched, expert or expert-reviewed content that builds topical authority, not thin AI-generated churn. Named writers/SMEs, editorial process, and content that ranks and converts score 4-5. High-volume, low-differentiation AI content 'at scale' scores 1-2 (Google's helpful-content and AI-slop filters punish it). Counts for 18% of the weighted score.
Evidence: verified — checked against a named source you can open; the links under Sources below are where to check it yourself.
Stronger here: Reboot Online scores Excellent on the same dimension.
Link building integrityWeak
More disclosure than most - guest posts, outreach, digital PR, niche edits, brand mentions and broken-link recovery are all named, with average DA 43 and DR 54 published. But nothing states whether money changes hands for placements, no publisher set or minimum threshold is given, and niche edits are listed as a product with no payment disclosure at all. The published code of ethics commits to avoiding penalty-triggering tactics and is silent on link acquisition. A 0.5-rated Clutch reviewer alleges inflated link-building claims specifically.
What this dimension measures: Earned links via digital PR, original data, and genuine outreach score 4-5. PBNs, link networks, mass guest-post buying, or 'we'll build 50 links/month' packages score 1-2 (penalty risk). Silence on how links are earned scores 2. Counts for 12% of the weighted score.
Evidence: verified — checked against a named source you can open; the links under Sources below are where to check it yourself.
Stronger here: Reboot Online scores Excellent on the same dimension.
AEO / GEO for AI searchAdequate
A built-out service line rather than a paragraph, targeting Gemini, ChatGPT and AI Overviews and naming passage-level optimisation, conversational query targeting, semantic SEO and schema work. Ahead of most generalists on capability. The results are not checkable: figures such as +5,556% AI platform traffic and 331 AI Overview citations are published with no tracking tool, no baseline and no definition of a citation.
What this dimension measures: The 2026 differentiator. Does the agency have a real practice for getting the client cited in AI answers (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Reddit visibility)? Named methodology and examples score 4-5. No mention of AI search / answer-engine optimization scores 2 (behind the curve). Buzzword-only with no substance scores 3. Counts for 15% of the weighted score.

Measurement tied to pipeline, not just rankingsAdequate
Reaches conversions and, on ecommerce accounts, transaction revenue - which is beyond rankings-only. The B2B manufacturer case gives genuine before-and-after absolutes, 6,723 to 13,549 conversions and 7% to 21% conversion rate, but no time period. The flagship medical group case reports sessions, conversions and rankings with no revenue or booked appointments and no baselines. Agency-wide totals published to the cent are not a checkable figure. A five-star Clutch reviewer still notes not reaching the lead volume they wanted.
What this dimension measures: Ties SEO to pipeline/revenue (organic-sourced pipeline, conversions, assisted revenue) rather than keyword-ranking screenshots. Pipeline/revenue reporting scores 4-5. Rankings-and-traffic-only reporting scores 1-2, especially given AI Overviews are cutting clicks even when rankings hold. Counts for 15% of the weighted score.
Evidence: partly checkable — corroborated in part against the sources below; the remainder rests on the agency’s own account.
Contract and pricing transparencyStrong
Ranges are published rather than gated: $500 to $10,000+ per month, local SEO $500-$1,500, consulting $150-$300 per hour, with 'no long-term contracts' and month-to-month terms stated independently on two pages. Clutch corroborates from the buyer side at a $1,000 minimum and $100-$149 per hour, so two sources agree and one is not controlled by Thrive. No fixed package tiers with defined deliverables are published.
What this dimension measures: Month-to-month or short terms with a published pricing anchor score 4-5. 12-month lock-ins score 2. Bespoke-only quoting with no anchor scores 1-2. SEO takes months to show, so a fair exit clause matters more here. Counts for 5% of the weighted score.

Verdict
Re-scored in its own category. Thrive had been evaluated twice against specialist rubrics for work it does not lead with - email lifecycle and CRO - and both times the finding was a category mismatch rather than a judgment on the agency. This record measures it where it actually competes: Clutch's own service breakdown puts SEO at 70% of Thrive's business, against PPC, social and web design at 10% each.
On that rubric it lands mid-table, and the shape is consistent. Vertical and stage fit is the strength: roughly 40 named verticals with dedicated pages, weighted to local home services and healthcare, and Clutch independently corroborates the economics at a $1,000 minimum, $100-$149 an hour and a $10,000-$49,999 typical project.
Pricing transparency is unusually good for this category - $500 to $10,000+ a month published as a range, local SEO at $500-$1,500, consulting at $150-$300 an hour, and month-to-month terms stated twice on the site and confirmed from the buyer side on Clutch. AI-search work is a real service line rather than a paragraph, naming passage-level optimisation, conversational query targeting and semantic SEO against Gemini, ChatGPT and AI Overviews, which is ahead of most generalists.
Three things hold it down. Technical depth is checklist-level - crawl errors, structured data, Core Web Vitals, migration URL mapping - with no log-file analysis, JavaScript rendering, crawl-budget or hreflang discussion, and one named tool that Google deprecated in 2021. No technical lead is identifiable anywhere: the team page at /about/team/ is password-protected, and the founder is the only person named on the site.
Link building discloses its tactics more openly than most, including niche edits, but says nothing about whether money changes hands for placements, and the published code of ethics is silent on link acquisition specifically. And the content service sells a bespoke, data-first strategy while Thrive's own domain runs a programmatic city-by-service page farm - 97 template URLs counted in the first 8 of 38 page sitemaps - which is the better available sample of its method.
Measurement reaches conversions rather than pipeline. The strongest case study reports real before-and-after absolutes, 6,723 to 13,549 conversions and a 7% to 21% conversion rate, but states no time period; the flagship medical case reports no revenue or booked appointments at all. Agency-wide aggregates are published to the cent - 'Site Event Value: $267,484,503.72' - which is a presentation choice rather than a checkable figure, and every AI-visibility percentage is published without a baseline, a tool or a definition of a citation.
The independent review base is substantial and genuinely mixed: 4.6 from 109 verified Clutch reviews spanning June 2021 to April 2026, and Trustpilot 4.2 from 42 with an unusual distribution - 79% five-star, 17% one-star, almost nothing in between. That bimodal shape is worth weighting; the three 0.5-rated Clutch reviews allege lost rankings, minimal deliverables and inflated link-building claims. A buyer should read them before signing rather than treat the aggregate as settled.
One evidence caveat: the G2 profile returned 403 to every attempt, so nothing here is scored on G2 either way.

What other platforms say
A substantial and genuinely mixed base. Clutch is strong in aggregate with three specific 0.5-rated reviews alleging lost rankings, minimal deliverables and inflated link-building claims. The Trustpilot distribution is bimodal rather than a smooth curve, which is worth weighting. The G2 profile returned 403 and was not read, so it is scored neither way.
These are other platforms' numbers, not ours. We report them because they are part of the picture, and we do not average them into our score — our score comes from the published rubric above.
Red flags
- Team page deliberately password-protected; no technical lead identifiable
- Niche edits sold as a product with no payment disclosure, and a code of ethics silent on link acquisition
- Bespoke content positioning contradicted by a programmatic city-page farm on their own domain
- AI-visibility percentages published with no baseline, tool or definition
- Agency-wide revenue aggregates published to the cent, unattributed and unaudited
- 'Fortune 500 companies' claimed on the enterprise page with no enterprise client named
- Trustpilot distribution is bimodal: 79% five-star against 17% one-star with almost nothing between
What we could not verify
- Who leads technical SEO, and their methodology - the team page is password-protected
- Whether link placements are paid, and from which publisher set
- Whether client content is produced bespoke or on the same templated model as Thrive's own city pages
- The instrument and baseline behind every published AI-visibility figure
- Time periods for case study results
- What the G2 review base says - the profile returned 403 and was not read
